Greater Manchester Police have confirmed a woman has been arrested following the death of Steve Bruce's four-month old grandson Madison.

Bruce's grandson Madison Smith tragically died at home in October at the age of four months. He lived with his mother, Bruce's daughter Amy, and his son-in-law Matt Smith. The death is now being investigated by police and a woman has been arrested and released on bail after being questioned by police. According to , the couple employed a night nanny to help care for Madison and police are examining her phone.

A spokesperson for thee GMP said: "We can confirm an investigation is ongoing and a woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. She was questioned and released on bail pending further inquiries. It is understood police are investigating the woman’s phone following Madison’s death."

Bruce took time off from his job as Blackpool boss after his grandson's death. He issued a heartbreaking statement at the time after the family's funeral for Madison. “On Tuesday we laid my grandson Madison to rest. It's been the worst time of my family's entire lives and is something no family should have to endure. I'd like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the family to thank everyone for the tributes and messages from inside and outside the footballing world. It has touched us all. INVESTIGATION TO CONTINUE
Bruce returned to work with Blackpool at the end of October. Meanwhile, the investigation into Madison's death is set to continue.
