The New York Red Bulls are in talks with Gremio midfielder Felipe Carballo over a permanent transfer, where he would Join the likes of Dante Vanzeir and Emil Forsberg as a Designated Player.
GiveMeSport reports that the Eastern Conference MLS side is finalizing a deal for the Uruguay international before the summer transfer window closes on Aug. 14.

Following the departure of Frankie Amaya to Liga MX side Toluca earlier this window, the Red Bulls have been searching for a replacement in the middle of the park.
They seem to have found their man in Carballo, who has seven international appearances with La Celeste. He broke through with the national team in 2023, but missed out on the Copa America roster this summer.
He'll arrive from Gremio in Brazil, where he made 54 appearances for the Serie A side from 2023 onward.

Carballo has won four league titles in his career, all of them with Uruguayan side Nacional. He's had two stints with the club, first from 2015-2017, and secondly, from 2019 until he joined Gremio in 2023.
